Evidence Synthesis: Risk of Bias Assessment in Systematic Reviews

Risk of bias assessment, also called quality assessment, is a universally useful skill for any literature review method. In this class, we’ll discuss the importance and value of evaluating studies and appraising the research you plan to include in your review critically.  This class  provides greater detail to research teams about what they need to know to successfully plan and execute the required steps of study risk of bias assessment. Whether you are at the beginning of a new project or at the risk of bias stage, this webinar will help you consider the necessary tasks for successful project completion and publication.

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  • Understand how critical appraisal, quality assessment, and bias assessment are related and why it is essential to assess for bias in reviews.
  • Identify the key components and structure of a risk of bias tool.
  • Summarize the methodology for risk of bias in reviews.
  • Locate potential risk of bias tools to use for their review and understand the reasons they would choose one tool over another.
