Introduction to Patents
Brought to you by Virginia Tech's Patent and Trademark Resource Center, this workshop is intended for anyone interested in learning more about patents, a form of intellectual property (IP) for protecting inventions. This introductory workshop will be especially helpful for those who have an invention or are thinking about applying for a patent or wish to research historical patents.
Attendees will learn about the 3 main types of patents (utility, design, and plant), including examples drawn from the toy industry. This workshop will also cover how to get started with searching USPTO's Patent Public Search and other patent databases. The workshop will conclude with resources and tips on applying for patents.
This workshop is being offered in a hybrid format and in-person attendees will be able to enjoy toys and edible IP (candy). This workshop is also being offered as part of a 6 part series celebrating the US Constitutuional right to hold patents which culminates in a poster showcase.
