Find Government Information on Social Topics
Chances are good that any topic affecting American society has been discussed and written about by the United States government. This session will introduce some of the places and techniques for finding the paper trails of those discussions -- in the works of Congress, presidents, and judges; in the reports of agencies that regulate or subsidize the activities of businesses and individuals; in publications agencies that conduct research and fund universities; and in the documents, artifacts, and environments curated and made available to the people by national libraries, museums, parks, and historical sites.
An official Federal Depository Library since 1907, the University Libraries at Virginia Tech has a mission to make U.S. government publications available to the public as well as to students and employees of the university.
This workshop is being offered as part of a six-part series celebrating the US Constitutional right to hold patents, which culminates in a poster showcase, and examples will align with that series. Search tools and information sources discussed will include free online resources for the public as well as proprietary ones designed for campus users.
