Adopt-a-Dataset: The Confederate Congress
Did you know the Confederate States of America created a parallel Congress of the Confederacy, adapted from the U.S. Congress? What did they legislate? Who served? What was politics like in the Confederacy?
Join Dale Winling (History) and the University Libraries to find out at VT's first ever Adopt-a-Dataset event!
Dale will share about the history of the Confederate Congress and introduce a dataset of roll-call votes taken in the Confederate Congress.
With help from Libraries faculty, we'll have a mini-datathon (no experience necessary)! Teams will map and visualize the data and share their findings.
This event is hosted by University Libraries and the Department of History as part of Love Data Week 2020 and supported by our membership in ICPSR. In honor of Love Data Week and Valentine's Day, there will be chocolate, coffee and tea at the event. For more information on finding, using or sharing data in ICPSR, email dataservices@vt.edu.
We encourage those who can't make it in person to join us to learn and collaborate online via Zoom; the link will be sent in advance to everyone registered for the workshop.
This event is open to all. If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-
