Archival Adventures: CSS H. L. Hunley

Archival Adventures: CSS H. L. Hunley

Let's dive in! This week ArchivistAnthony is seeking the depths of the archives with a look at the CSS Hunley. The Confederate States Ship Horace Lawson Hunley was the first submarine to sink an enemy warship, the USS Housatonic, in wartime during the United States Civil War. While it was an impressive feat by the vessel to sink a floating warship, the Hunley also sank, killing everyone on board. The Hunley was not rediscovered until 1995. It was raised in 2000 from the floor of Charleston’s outer harbor, 131 years after it sank! Learn more before this week's episode: https://bit.ly/ArchivalAdventures163
