Intro to Excel and OpenRefine: working with spreadsheets (Library Carpentry)

Intro to Excel and OpenRefine: working with spreadsheets (Library Carpentry)

Learn best practices for cleaning up messy real-world data in Excel spreadsheets, then level up your data cleaning skills with the power of OpenRefine. This hands-on workshop will cover ways to clean, standardize, and combine spreadsheets in Excel and OpenRefine, as well as touching on tools to improve the quality of initial Excel data entry and for using APIs to enhance data with external sources in OpenRefine.

The workshop is open to anyone and based on lessons from Library Carpentry. You do not need any experience with the software to participate but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for in-person participants. Instructions for accessing course material and installing software will be sent in advance. For questions, contact Data Education Coordinator Nathaniel Porter (ndporter@vt.edu).

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, welcome! Please email library-event-accessibility@groups.office365.vt.edu at least 10 days prior to the event.
