Intro to R and RStudio (Data Carpentry)
This workshop provides an introduction to using the R programming language for reproducible data analysis and scientific computing. Learn how to work with data in R and RStudio, analyze your data using summary statistics, and begin to make data visualizations whether or not you have any experience with coding or data analysis.
This hands-on workshop is open to anyone and based on lessons from Data Carpentry. You do not need any experience with the software to participate, but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. Instructions for accessing course material and installing software will be sent in advance. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for in-person participants. If you have any questions before the session, please contact Jesse Sadler (jrsadler@vt.edu), Digital Humanities Trainer and Project Consultant.
Learning outcomes:
- Navigate RStudio and gain comfort writing and running code in scripts.
- Open data in R and work with it in data frames using the tidyverse set of packages.
- Visualize data using ggplot2.
