Intro to R and RStudio - Data Carpentry

Intro to R and RStudio - Data Carpentry

This hands-on, participatory workshop provides an introduction to using the R programming language for reproducible data analysis and scientific computing. Learn how to work with data in R and RStudio, analyze your data using summary statistics, and begin to make data visualizations whether or not you have any experience with coding or data analysis.

The workshop is open to anyone and based on lessons from Data Carpentry. You do not need any experience with the software to participate, but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. If you attend in person at TLOS and are unable to download the software, laptops will be available for use. Instructions for accessing course material and installing software are below and will be sent in advance. If you have any questions before the session, please contact Jesse Sadler (jrsadler@vt.edu), Digital Humanities Trainer and Project Consultant.

Learning outcomes

  • Navigate RStudio and gain comfort writing and running code in scripts.
  • Open data in R and work with it in dataframes using the tidyverse set of packages.
  • Clean and analyze data in a reproducible manner.
  • Visualize data using ggplot2.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, welcome! Please email library-event-accessibility@groups.office365.vt.edu at least 10 days prior to the event.
