Intro to Python and JupyterLab - Software Carpentry
This workshop provides an introduction to using the Python programming language for reproducible data analysis and scientific computing. Learn how to work with data in Python using the JupyterLab interface, use different data types, and build reproducible data pipelines whether or not you have any experience with coding or data analysis.
This hands-on workshop is open to anyone and based on lessons from Software Carpentry. You do not need any experience with the software to participate, but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. Instructions for accessing course material and installing software will be sent in advance. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for in-person participants. If you have any questions before the session, please contact Jesse Sadler (jrsadler@vt.edu), Digital Humanities Trainer and Project Consultant.
Learning outcomes:
- Navigate the JupyterLab interface and gain comfort writing and running code.
- Distinguish between common data types and structures in Python.
- Build reproducible data pipelines using loops and conditions.
If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, welcome! Please email library-event-accessibility@groups.office365.vt.edu at least 10 days prior to the event.
