Intro to Python and JupyterLab

This hands-on, participatory workshop provides an introduction to using the Python programming language for reproducible data analysis and scientific computing. Learn how to work with data in Python using the JupyterLab interface and gain familiarity with how to use different data types.

The workshop is open to anyone. You do not need any experience to participate, but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. The curriculum is based on episodes 1–4 of the Software Carpentry Programming with Python lesson.

Learning Outcomes:  
- Gain familiarity with how to install and use Python environments.
- Practice navigating and utilizing the Jupyter Labs interface.
- Use functions and assignment to create and manipulate common object types, including numbers, strings, arrays and lists in Python.
- Perform statistical summaries and visualization on data arrays in Python.
