Software Carpentries II: Programming with Python

Software Carpentries II: Programming with Python

Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on workshop will cover basic programming and data skills in Python. It is designed to be taken in combination with the Software Carpentry I workshop on 2/25 but can be taken as a standalone workshop.

The workshop is open to anyone. You do not need any experience to participate but you will need access to a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. The workshop will be hosted online using Zoom; instructions for accessing course material and installing software will be sent in advance. For questions, contact Data Education Coordinator Nathaniel Porter (ndporter@vt.edu).

By the end of this workshop, you will know how to use:

Programming in Python
-Basics of programming in Python
-Using libraries
-Working with arrays
-Reading, plotting and summarizing data
-Creating and using functions
-Loops and conditionals
