Coded Bias, a documentary by filmmaker Shalini Kantayya, explores the fallout of MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini´s startling discovery that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces and women accurately, and her journey to push for the first-ever legislation in the U.S. to govern against bias in the algorithms that impact us all. The film challenges us to consider two key questions: What is the impact of Artificial Intelligence’s increasing role in governing our liberties? And what are the consequences for people stuck in the crosshairs due to their race, color, and gender? For more information, go to: https://www.codedbias.com/

Please join VT Engage and the University Libraries for a virtual screening of the film on Tuesday, April 13th at 6:30pm and a virtual discussion with filmmaker Shalini Kantayya on Tuesday, April 20th at 6:30pm. All are welcome!

Space is limited, so sign up to reserve your spot! You will receive a reminder email with the Zoom link prior to each session of this two-part event.
