Omeka Basics

Omeka Basics

Important note: We will be offering this workshop in a hybrid mode. You may attend in-person in 207A at Newman Library or online via Zoom. If you select "online" during the registration process, we will provide the Zoom link in a follow up email shortly after registration and in a reminder email shortly before the workshop. If you wish to change your mode (from in-person to online or online to in-person) at any point before the event, please contact the instructors, so we can plan accordingly.

Workshop description: This 3-hour workshop will be an introduction to using Omeka for digital scholarship projects and exhibits. Participants will learn the basics of Omeka terminology, as well as how to create metadata, upload items, manage multiple users, and use themes and plugins. In addition, participants will explore copyright for content and hosting options for Omeka. We will spend 2 hours exploring Omeka and have 1 hour of optional work time for attendees who want to start a new project or get help on an existing one. As we get closer to the workshop, instructors will be in touch with what you might want to have available to start or work on a project. Following the workshop, participants will have started a project and have access to a toolkit for continued support.

PDN Credit: Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and graduate students may take this workshop for 3 PDN credits. If wish to take the workshop for credit, please register via the PDN website.
