Data Represent! Diversity and Inclusion Challenges in the US Census

Data Represent! Diversity and Inclusion Challenges in the US Census

Data Represent! is an occasional series of streaming panels where data experts chat and respond to audience questions about diversity and inclusion issues in data and how they can impact our lives. Our pilot episode tackles the US Census and its long history of controversy over how to count racial, ethnic and gender minorities. Penn State Assistant Professor Alexis Santos and Austin (TX) City Demographer Lila Valencia join host Virginia Tech Social Science Data Consultant Nathaniel Porter to bring their expertise and applied experience counting and advocating for historically marginalized groups. If we don't have the answers to your questions, we'll dive into the data on stream and see what we can find (and show you how you can too).

This event will stream live on Twitch and does not require registration. Register below if you wish to receive a reminder email with easy connection information. This is part of a new Virginia Tech series on Inclusive Data - find information on other events on the Library Calendar.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-accessibility-g@vt.edu at least 10 business days prior to the event.
