Archival Adventures - Episode 52: Otis Jerome Parker Papers
It's time for an adventure! Join our community collections archivist, Anthony Wright de Hernandez, for a livestream on Twitch! Every week we explore and discuss materials from Special Collections and University Archives covering topics including university history, NASA pioneers, architecture, science fiction, cooking, LGBTQ+ history, Black history, urban legends, and more. Recordings of previous streams are available on the Libaries' Youtube page.
This week we're exploring the Otis Jerome Parker Papers (Ms1987-065). These papers focus on the work of Otis Jerome Parker, an aerospace engineer at NASA's Langley Research Center during the Genini, Apollo, and Skylab projects. Much of the material in the colleciton is focused on the development of "jet shoes" and other propulsion devices for extravehicular activity (EVA). To get a sense of what we'll be looking at, take a look at the finding aid here: https://ead.lib.virginia.edu/vivaxtf/view?docId=oai/lib.vt.edu/repositories/2/resources/1507.oai_ead.xml
