Building Digital Exhibits and Adding Maps to Omeka
In the first part of the workshop, we will explore plug-ins and tools for creating custom pages, building exhibits, and incorporating audio and video. We will also review the Omeka Toolkit available from the instructors for creating and uploading content and talk about best practices for contextualizing digital materials within exhibits. During the second part of the workshop, we will discuss and demonstrate plug-ins and free web tools for creating and incorporating maps into Omeka exhibits. We will explore the available resources and when and how they can/should be used. This workshop will also include 30 min for Q&A and time to work on your own projects with instructor support. Participants should have a basic understanding of how to use Omeka, as we will be covering advanced topics that assume you know how to add content to an Omeka site.
Participants will learn how to install the exhibit builder plug-in in Omeka; build an exhibit; and install other viewers for special items such as PDFs, audio, or video. Participants will also learn the basics of creating interactive maps and incorporating them into Omeka sites using plug-ins and free web tools.
