The Virginia Tech Drone Park offers students and faculty a unique opportunity to learn new skills and develop and test innovative technology, and offers a number of drones for recreational and research purposes.
To borrow any of our drones, patrons must complete the following Virginia Tech training modules:
Virginia Tech UAS Training Course/Part 107 Regulations Quiz
Drone Safety/Drone Safety Quiz
VT Policies and Protocols – To fly on VT property, you will need to complete the associated knowledge check. You are also required to obtain your Part 107 certification to fly on VT property (even if you are flying recreationally). Contact vtdronepark@vt.edu for more information about the Part 107 certification.
Patrons must also complete a Drone Park Proficiency Flight and provide proof of certification. If this is your first time checking out equipment, contact vtdronepark@vt.edu to schedule your flight (this only needs to be completed one time, as long as you continue to show evidence of being a safe operator).
Drones also require either a Remote Pilot (Part 107) Certification or a TRUST Certificate. This is indicated in the description of each drone. If you do not currently have this certification, please contact us at vtdronepark@vt.edu to get more information.
If you intend to fly on the Blacksburg Campus, you must complete that knowledge check and submit a Veoci application. Please complete your proficiency flight with the Drone Park Manager prior to submitting your Veoci application.
