Archival Adventures: Melvin N. Gough Papers, Part 2

Archival Adventures: Melvin N. Gough Papers, Part 2

It's time for an adventure! This week we're heading back to the Mid 20th Century as we explore the Melvin N. Gough Papers, Part 2. From 1926-1958, Melvin N. Gough was an engineer, test pilot, Chief Test Pilot, and Chief of Flight Research at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in Langley. In 1958, NACA became the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Gough transfered to Cape Canavarel  as the Director of NASA Operations at the Atlantic Missile Range. He later became Director of the Bureau of Safety for the Civil Aeronautics Board and Director of Aircraft Development for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA).

This collection includes various reports prepared by Gough as a test pilot as well as details of flight characteristics of different aircraft. There are also reports prepared as part of Gough's work as a crash investigator. You can learn more about the collection in the finding aid here: https://ead.lib.virginia.edu/vivaxtf/view?docId=oai/lib.vt.edu/repositories/2/resources/1500.oai_ead.xml
