Archival Adventures: Thornton L. Page Papers

Archival Adventures: Thornton L. Page Papers

It's time for an adventure! This week: We're looking to space with the Thornton L. Page Papers. Page was an astronomer at the University of Chicago and Wesleyan University. He also served in with the U.S. Naval Ordnance Lab during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor and then served throughout the Pacific. Later, he was a member of the Robertson Panel, a Central Intelligence Agency sponsored group that investigated the existence of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

Our collection is focused on his time as an astronomer and includes drafts and copies of his publications in the fields of astronomy and general science.

You can learn a bit about the collection in the finding aid here: https://ead.lib.virginia.edu/vivaxtf/view?docId=oai/lib.vt.edu/repositories/2/resources/1382.oai_ead.xml

Join our community collections archivist, Anthony Wright de Hernandez, for a livestream on Twitch! Every week we explore and discuss materials from Special Collections and University Archives covering topics including university history, NASA pioneers, architecture, science fiction, cooking, LGBTQ+ history, Black history, urban legends, and more. Recordings of previous streams are available on the Libaries' Youtube page.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-accessibility-g@vt.edu at least 10 business days prior to the event.
