Archival Adventures: African American Women in Architecture
It's time for an adventure! This week we are looking at materials from African American women in architecture. Architects we will look at today include Norma Merrick Skarlek and Amaza Lee Meredith. Skarlek was the first African-American woman to become a licensed architect in New York and California. Meredith was an architect and teacher at Virginia State University. Information about both of these small collections is included in the Guide to the IAWA Small Collections: bit.ly/Ms2009-054
Join our community collections archivist, Anthony Wright de Hernandez, for a livestream on Twitch! Every week we explore and discuss materials from Special Collections and University Archives covering topics including university history, NASA pioneers, architecture, science fiction, cooking, LGBTQ+ history, Black history, urban legends, and more. Recordings of previous streams are available on the Libaries' Youtube page.
If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-accessibility-g@vt.edu at least 10 business days prior to the event.
